Luxembourg’s Defence Innovation Ecosystem Comes Together
On 9 December, the LUXUAV team participated in the second edition of the Luxembourg Defence Technology and Innovation Day 2025—a flagship event for the country’s rapidly evolving defence and security ecosystem.
Co-organised by Luxinnovation GIE and the Directorate of Defence - Luxembourg, the event has established itself as a central platform for aligning innovation, policy, and industry in a European defence context.
Setting the Strategic Tone
The day opened with keynote remarks from Yuriko Backes, Luxembourg’s Minister of Defence, alongside Mario Grotz, CEO of Luxinnovation.
Their messages highlighted a shared ambition:
to position Luxembourg as a credible, connected, and innovation-driven contributor to European defence capability development—particularly in fast-moving technology domains.
A Growing Defence Innovation Community
With around 450 participants and nearly 50 exhibitors, the 2025 edition reflected both the scale and momentum of the ecosystem. Start-ups, scale-ups, established industry players, researchers, and public-sector stakeholders came together to showcase and discuss cutting-edge defence technologies, ranging from unmanned systems and sensing to software-driven capabilities.
More than a static exhibition, the event was designed as a working forum—a place to exchange insights, test ideas, and build connections that extend beyond national borders.
From Ideas to Application
Throughout the day, participants had the opportunity to:
- Engage directly with industry experts across defence and dual-use domains
- Discover emerging and mature technologies shaping the future of defence
- Participate in panels and hands-on workshops focused on real-world challenges
This combination of strategic discussion and practical exploration is what makes the event particularly valuable: it bridges the gap between innovation concepts and operational relevance.
Collaboration as a Force Multiplier
For companies like LUXUAV, gatherings such as the Luxembourg Defence Technology and Innovation Day are more than networking events. They are signals of intent—demonstrating that defence innovation in Europe increasingly depends on collaboration across industry, government, and research.
By fostering open exchange and shared understanding, the event strengthens the foundations required to move promising technologies toward deployment, scale, and long-term impact.
Looking Ahead
As Europe continues to rethink its security and defence posture, forums like this play a crucial role in shaping the path forward. The strong turnout, high-quality discussions, and practical focus of the 2025 edition underscore Luxembourg’s growing role within the wider European defence innovation landscape.
A sincere thank-you goes to the organisers and all participants for creating such a dynamic and forward-looking environment—and for continuing to push defence innovation from vision to reality.
