Strengthening Europe’s Drone Sovereignty: LUXUAV Welcomes Romanian Defence Delegation
In September 2025, LUXUAV welcomed a high-level delegation from the Ministry of National Defence - Romania to its facilities in Luxembourg. The delegation was led by Liviu-Ionuț Moșteanu, reflecting Romania’s strong interest in deepening European cooperation in the unmanned systems domain.
The visit brought together political leadership, diplomatic representation, and defence authorities from both countries—highlighting the growing importance of cross-border alignment in drone capability development.
A European Dialogue at Strategic Level
The delegation was joined by Alexandrina-Livia Rusu, Ambassador of Romania to Luxembourg, alongside representatives of the Directorate of Defence - Luxembourg, including Julien Silverio and Alexander Link.
Their presence underlined a shared understanding: the future of European defence depends on trusted partnerships, industrial resilience, and sovereign technology development.
Building a European Drone Ecosystem
Discussions during the visit centred on LUXUAV’s long-term vision for a European UAV ecosystem, grounded in four strategic pillars:
- European-made critical components, reducing dependency on non-European suppliers
- Interoperable platforms with resilient edge-AI, designed for contested and degraded environments
- Re-industrialisation of Europe, restoring supply-chain sovereignty in defence manufacturing
- Ongoing R&D programs, supported by the Luxembourg Directorate of Defence
This approach reflects a broader shift across Europe: moving from fragmented procurement and external dependencies toward integrated, sovereign, and scalable drone capabilities.
Drones as a Permanent Pillar of Modern Defence
One conclusion resonated clearly throughout the discussions:
drones are no longer an emerging capability — they are a permanent pillar of modern defence.
From surveillance and reconnaissance to logistics, protection, and deterrence, unmanned aerial systems have become indispensable. Ensuring their availability, resilience, and interoperability is now a strategic necessity rather than a technological ambition.
The visit provided an opportunity to align perspectives on how implying capability-building must go hand in hand with industrial robustness and long-term European autonomy.
Contributing to the Emerging “Drone Wall”
The dialogue also touched on the emerging multinational “drone wall” initiative, launched by several European countries — including Romania — to strengthen collective drone-based surveillance and defence along Europe’s borders.
In this context, LUXUAV reaffirmed its readiness to contribute with European-built, interoperable UAV solutions that align with multinational operational requirements and shared standards.
Such initiatives illustrate how national efforts are increasingly converging into pan-European defence architectures, where industry plays a critical enabling role.
A Shared Commitment to Capability and Resilience
The visit concluded with a strong sense of alignment: on priorities, on risks, and on the urgency of action. For LUXUAV, exchanges at this level reinforce its mission to help build a capable, resilient, and sovereign European drone ecosystem.
Sincere thanks go to the Romanian delegation and to the Luxembourg Directorate of Defence for their trust, cooperation, and continued support in advancing Europe’s defence innovation landscape.
